Since we started collecting for Ellie’s Fund Brain Tumour Trust we’ve read a lot about the low levels of funding brain tumour research receives, and the high prevalence of this type of cancer amongst the young. Sadly brain tumour research is 12 years behind that of other types of cancer. The simple fact is we need more research, but to do this more funding needs to be allocated to brain tumour specific research. A recent petition – which at present has 20,000 signatures – calls for an increase in spending upon brain tumour research. Just 100,000 signatures is enough for this petition to be considered for debate.
