6 Reasons Why Making Your Will Is Important
Lots of people don’t have a Will – despite people having complicated financial affairs and complex family relationships. Just to remind you why you should make a Will we have put together a few reasons.
1. You control who gets your assets and how much they get. Without a Will the law of intestacy sets out who will inherit your money and possessions.
2. If you have children under the age of 18 you can appoint guardians to look after them avoiding the need of social services and the Court becoming involved in deciding who would look after your children.
3. If you are unmarried, under the intestacy rules your partner is not entitled to benefit from your estate.
4. You can leave gifts to friends and charities who would not otherwise benefit from your estate.
5. You can plan for future liabilities such as long term care costs of inheritance tax.
6. You have peace of mind knowing you have done all you can to make life as easy as possible for those you are leaving behind.
